Wisdom For the Strong Wife

Picture
I remember walking into his hospital room, it was dim and quiet except for the beeping of the IV machine and my shoes clicking on the floor. His wife was sitting on the chair holding his hand with her eyes closed. She was tired, drained, and overwhelmed. I checked his vitals and took a chair beside her. We sat in silence for a while, not wanting to voice the thousands of unanswered questions raging in our minds. She finally spoke first, and I will remember this forever; “he does not want all this.”
I looked into her eyes full of wisdom and pain, and she went on. “He does not want a feeding tube. He does not want any life saving procedures. He is ready, and so am I.”
The silence resumed and this time, it was me that held her hand.
Death is not an easy subject. It is difficult to talk and think about with our loved ones, however, it is always best to be prepared. It is a step that ensures your wishes are fulfilled. A Living Will is a legal document that specially lays out what you would and would not like in regards to your care. Do you want CPR, a ventilator, a feeding tube, dialysis, antibiotics, or palliative care? Would you like to donate organs and tissues after you are deceased? You might have specific requests and a Living Will is a way for your loved ones to carry out your requests. At The Law Offices of Samantha K. Wolfe, LLC let us walk by you and help you with this process. This is a way to also make the path easier for your loved ones as well.
